More than two years ago Alexander Babak created a series of "wood" landscape paintings. These works inspired the artist and his colleagues - Tamara Babak and Mykola Malyshko - to develop a full-fledged project - "Wood". Over time though, having given up unfettered colorful painting, Alexander created the "Burnt Wood" cycle - author's ready-mades on old wall-paper he found in the trash. Due to their facture monochromaticism these canvases-objects coexist naturally with massive sculpture by Mykola Malyshko where forest is represented literally - as material. Mykola has a specific way of working with wood - his sculptures are blatantly cut out of tree trunks with an axe. Tamara Babak's objects - springy meadows - are also made of "wood", but entirely different one - one that consists of thin branches. The character of her forest accordingly is purely feminine - tender and sophisticated, yet strained to the limit.
