Greenery displayed itself in different ways in traditional cultures: ambitious cosmological myths, world tree images, fertility cults – the interaction between a man and a plant is observed in many iconic forms. In the new project “Light Grass", Dmytro Moldovanov turns to another type of interaction, when greenery can influence a human life cycle. Herb cures and kills, pushes the boundaries or becomes an obstacle in the path. It is an herb creative function that becomes a conceptual background for the author's idea.

Dmytro Moldovanov identifies his perfect world, in which an artist is a main figure, a lord-creator. A utopia obtains the bright ecological colouring: there is a harmony between people and animals; the “predator–victim" dichotomy is replaced with a total love. In point of fact, it is a man's return from a civilization to primitive Eden. But the cycle closes at this, because the utopia in itself is the static and preserved in aspic phenomenon.

Also the primal drive topic becomes completed, that the artist has being developed during few projects one after another. Thus, the latest exhibition “Victim" in Dnipropetrovsk Ya Gallery Art Center referred to the idea of a sacrifice that shall maintain a harmony in the world. The utopian nature of “Light Grass" is precisely in the nature, which already doesn't need any violence for a maintaining the order. Herb metaphorically helps to find an idyll, as primarily a natural and connected with the earth symbol, and then it is overgrown with the mythological meanings layer.

This time Art Brut stylistics of Moldovanov's works is accompanied with the texture, which is closer to folk kitsch rugs. The author's usual combination of a simple form with a multilevel storyline creates the opportunity of considerations variety.
