Ya Gallery Art Center together with Lviv Palace of Arts present a project of two famous Lviv artists, outstanding representatives of the “new old masters”, Eugene Ravskyi and Volodymyr Kostyrko. It is the first attempt in a collaborative retrospection and presentation of new works for both authors in the past ten years. The artists confess that the concept of the project has been in plans for quite a while, though the result was a complete surprise to both of them.

The central idea uniting all the selected works is an attempt to ironically review the artistic heritage – world's and national. It is an experiment with perception of classic works that starts with the title and deliberately challenges traditions of large collective gatherings. And if in some circles people are used to such mischief of the “new old masters”, a mild cultural shock at the very least is what awaits the mass viewer. The habit of an estranged observer won't stand a chance – the contrast between the artistic techniques and modern plots, that highlight the impression of playing with art history, is too great and the majority of audience isn't ready for it.

Another culture shock awaits the viewer with the authors' new installations where brining the past into the modern exposes the reverse side of admiring the “haute” classics. “The Louvre” challenges the unconditional authority of the old museum model, where the accumulation of “beautiful” creates and opposite effect of retrograde and ugly. Conceptual and substantive authors' interventions into the art history permeate all the exhibition space where the characters on canvases turn out to be usual spectators – artist's friends or acquaintances.

Following successful projects with these authors in Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Odesa, Moscow and other cities, citizens of Lviv and guests of the city will have an opportunity to see their works firsthand. “This project is for a wide audience and promises a real emotional explosion. Why the Louvre? It is obvious!” says curator Pavlo Gudimov.

Opening of the project will be on Friday, 5 July , at 18.00, in the Lviv Palace of Arts, wich situated on 17 Kopernyka Street.
