To reproduce the history of connections between the word and image in one exhibition space, Pavlo Gudimov collect "many worded" works of Ukrainian artists in new curator project called "Word". This connection, as we know, composed through the ages: from Bible "Word" and its ritual meanings, illustrated with numerous quantities of iconic images to advertising poster appeals, which influence modern people with magic effect, forcing them to buy unnecessary stuff. With time, painting art becomes a certain mirror for the reflection of literature processes and literature in its turn becomes a field for idea searches for lots of artists from Medieval, Renaissance to modernism, when word was lost nearby the abstraction for a short period of time and disappeared. Thanks to this connections between the image and the word, image lost its uncertainty, characteristic of any artistic image and the word becomes very laconic and finally through the concept art became wider speaking words of Kadnikov " not only vertical and horizontal but into the inside". Separate page in history of visual art is calligraphy, miniatures and manuscript which was that unique material form unified the image and the word in their interaction, flowing and finally pouring one into another illustrating the phenomenon of syncretism of ancient arts. Reconstituted in the modern art book, manuscript exists in new form of author's book, which became the subject of no less artistic value than the artist's work itself. Modern artists are trying to save the result of "love between the word and the image", using text in their works not only as image support but as absolutely independent element. Build with typography technique and mass media efforts, word open its sacred sense in contact with artistic work, which decodes, comments and reflects it and sometimes frankly laughing at it. At this contact the word and image mutually changing and transforming. Quotes, titles and texts are work's permanent followers. Every author give its own role for a word, like an actor in play, directed by the artist.
Expressive word of Vlada Ralko, from "Chinese erotic diary" express woman's look on human life's sexual component, when the works of Stas Volyazlovsky in his own "penis art" style followed by the much more "man's" text and his images imitate classic splint. The word provocateur is always multiplying on Kadnikov's works not to become an advertising slogan, transforming into funny mix of social critique and self reflection. Stanislav Perfezky almost silent, reflecting in his stencils words as symbols of modern crisis, like "think by yourself, I told you everything"
Due to Shakespeare's quotes, works of Eugene Ravsky could rich the top of emotional tension, and image becomes that new text, which ancient word has new sound.
Roman Gromov and Dmytriy Kyzovkin are interpreting word absolutely laterally, not leaving any time for viewer to think. That's how household word was looked like in folk art works and today appeared on advertising posters and in conjunction with the image helped the transformation of commercial product into the genre of art.
Meanwhile , although literally interpreted, text on the works of Andriy Sagaidakovsky never remind an advertizing.
Artist uses the word as the tool for expressiveness the mood, a call for an action, to feel and to listen to yourself and ask life important questions. On Sagaidakovsky canvases the word goes inside into the image and becomes the voice of author on the painting.
This process of uncontrolled expansion of sense field of the word leads to the new cultural phenomenon - so called "multiword" that can swallow those new senses with the speed of internet page. We cannot guess, what is the destiny of "word" with all this experiments, but one thing is clear - until the image will exist, there will be a word.
